The Index: 12/15

The Index 12/15          What a week of ball folks, and there has been some movement in The Index, and possibly a dead conference. An incredible weekend slate took aim at some of The Index and that resulted in some strong risers flexing their muscles, and some teams getting pushed down. The big time matchups delivered and the drama that is developing in the mid-major world is proving to entertain every night of the week. There are of course a couple of teams I will touch on to highlight the week they had, and a few conference and their outlook going into the new year. To start however, we have to talk about the Matadors of Cal State Northridge, possibly the winners of the week across college basketball. A 2-0 week that included taking down Fresno State at home in a game they led nearly the entire way, and then turning around and going across the country and winning by 20 at Delaware against a Blue Hens team that had just knocked off George Washington (And ...

Big West Beat

Big West Status Report: 12/8/25     We are a week into Big West conference play and wrapping up the holiday non-con schedule and the Big West is taking shape. There are not any major surprises so far and there are three clear tiers emerging out west. The conference seemed to be pretty par for the course in the early season non-conference matchups and MTE's which will leave them with some work to do in conference to steal an extra bid. What is going for them right now is that the Big East is looking mighty thin and the middle of the SEC is not as solid as the last few seasons. However, there are a few other mid major conferences that have developed some strong resumes. The WCC seems poised to get a third team in the dance, the MAC is starting to separate from the middle of the pack, and the A10 seems to finally be coming back to life after some real down years. What is clear right now for the Big West however is its current power rankings of teams in terms of resume and p...

The Index: 12/8

The Index 12/8      Another week in the books and this one did NOT disappoint, the post MTE hangover did not appear as the remaining non-con matchups helped fill the start of conference play. The Index responded well to its opening rankings, it wasn't perfect and we will have movement but the foot is in the door. Before we jump into this weeks rankings, I want to talk about how some of these conferences are holding up early in the season. The power conferences are doing their shuffle currently, the Big 12 is clearly rising, the ACC vs SEC clash I feel did more harm for both conferences than good, and the depth of the Big East is regressing from a strong season last year. The Big 10 and Big 12 are gonna clash this year and the SEC may not like the result on selection Sunday even with a relatively strong non-conference showing. Unfortunately for these power conferences the mid majors have come to play this year and I don't think they can be ignored this year. The A10...

The College Basketball Entertainment Index for 2025 - 2026

Image
Look No Further...     Now that the conference play is set to begin this season, my deeply analytic brain is ready to start highlighting the teams you need to be watching to for an enjoyable season. There is a lot of couch science applied to this list and on this couch we respect three things; defensive efficiency, game control, and the Stan Sheriff Center at 11:30 pm. After four weeks of non-conference matchups and a satisfactory Feast Week, I have been able to digest my preseason outlooks with some early live observations and am ready to start tracking where the entertainment is located. Also how is the Players ERA effecting scheduling and MTE's. What conferences are brewing up intriguing conference matchups? Who at the top is worth devoting a TV to? There are gems in every conference, timeslot, and streaming service and your time is not worth wasting. If you're looking to know where your eyes should be this season this index is for you.     To be considered for th...

How is it possible?

The Kansas City Chiefs just beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime with a Mecole Hardman touchdown. I act as unbiased as I can on here and try not to show what football team I root for, until right now. How is it possible for this amount of heartbreak to hit my 49ers? They are the most tortured fanbase in North American sports over the last 15 year by a mile. Don't believe me? I'll fucking list every time where they were on the cusp of winning the super bowl.  2012 NFC championship game against Giants; lost in overtime with TWO muffed punts. 2013 Super Bowl; had 1st and goal at the 5 yard line down 5 points to the Ravens with under 2 minutes to go....1 run and 3 straight incompletions. 2014 NFC championship at Seattle; down 6 in the redzone with 30 seconds left, throw to the endzone for the win and picked off. 2020 super bowl; up 10 in the fourth quarter with the ball, gave up  2 Chief td's and then Jimmy overthrows a potential winning TD with a minute to go. 202...

Super Bowl Ball Watch Menu

49ers vs Chiefs / Sf -1.5 One game left. Vegas. Super bowl rematch. How can anyone bet against the Chiefs? I've picked against them in all 3 playoff games and they have looked much better than the 49ers. The SF defense has not looked good this postseason and now they match up with Mahomes. We're going to get a heavy dose of CMC and the 49ers dethrone the Chiefs for at least one year. Niners get a pick six late to ice the game. The Pick: 49ers 31-16

Dana Altman and The Boys Midseason Report

Dana Altman Status Report:     After last nights loss to UCLA and a 1-1 tour through the LA schools, the Oregon Ducks continue their turbulent season. Sitting at 2nd place behind Arizona in the lame duck Pac-12, Dana Altman has really squeezed the most out of an injured, sloppy, and young group of Ducks. Through varying degrees of health the Ducks have stayed competitive in every game since the nasty loss to Syracuse in December. The loss at Boulder has an ugly score but remained close till the tired Ducks let the flood gates open in the final minutes. The home loss to Arizona showed the capabilities of this Ducks squad and keeping up with top level competition come February and march. Though Arizona gained control early, veteran play from Jermaine Couisnard kept the Ducks within striking distance till the final buzzer. A team like Arizona who is surging now and seemingly is a rolling ball of knifes and dagger 3's, showing the fight the Duck...
